Google Lens is a super-powered version of Google Googles that uses your smartphone camera and deep machine learning to not only detect an object but understand what it detects and offer actions based on what it sees.

For example, It enables you to do things such as point your phone at something, such as a specific building, and then ask Google Assistant what the object you’re pointing at is and then it offers you action based on what it sees in that building like giving basic information about that, displaying its location, its website details and so on.

How does that Work?

The Google Lens technology relies upon your smartphone’s camera to “see” what’s around you and give you in-depth information about your surroundings. It generally uses the camera on your handset and with that Google Lens can scan a product, animal, building, text or something else in your environment and tell you what that object is.

1. Scan and translate the text: Like you are travelling and the text is written in a different language. You can translate text in real-time, look up words, add events to your calendar, call a number, and more. Or just copy and paste to save some time.

What is Google VPS (Visual Positioning System)?

When your GPS is not enough, the new visual system in Google Maps can also use the newly coined Visual Positioning System (VPS) feature. The VPS uses your phone’s camera and Google’s extensive back-end data to analyze your surroundings to identify where you are with greater accuracy.

Note: Aparna Chennapragada introduced one of the best new features: visual guidance and Visual Positioning System in Google Maps Navigation.

How Does VPS Works?

This works on the concept of visual navigation. When you turn on your camera and point to retrieve information related to that, you will see your surroundings with an overlay of Maps information for nearby business, arrows pointing you in the direction you need to go, with a small map at the bottom to remind you where you are headed. This is a powerful addition to Google Maps and Street View.

When your GPS and Google maps fail to accurately update with you with proper turns and lanes in the densely populated and high raised building area. Then VPS comes as a saviour for you that uses your phone’s camera and Google’s extensive back-end data to analyze your surroundings to identify where you are with greater accuracy.

Note: Sadly, Google did not mention when these new Maps amazing features would become available. We will surely update you with all the required information and When the Google VPS (Visual Positioning System ) will become available.
